Jet Infosystems migrates Soglasie's databases to Oracle Exadata

09/02/2015

Moscow. The Soglasie insurance company has moved its ERP databases to an optimized Oracle Exadata system. The contract was delivered by Jet Infosystems, an Oracle Platinum Partner. It took just about 6 weeks to test the platform, evaluate sizing requirements and perform migration. Since the system was launched the total amount of data processed has increased from 800 to 1800 Gb, the number of sessions during peak hours has increased from 1 to 2 thousand, while the response time has dropped dramatically, in some cases by 90%.

"The company has moved to a new platform because it wanted to centralize its databases used by branch offices. The previous solution could not support major hardware upgrades required to deal with the increasing amount of information, - says Sergey Klochkov, head of the IT department at Soglasie. – With the help of Jet Infosystems we have chosen an optimum platform that delivers a much superior performance even though the surge in information flows proved to be even higher than expected."

Oracle Exadata was selected from several platforms whose performance was reviewed and tested in Soglasie's regular business environment. It is integrated with the existing IT landscape. Migration to a new OS was carefully rehearsed in the test mode. System recovery plans were drawn up for each stage of migration. The most critical database was moved to a cluster; spare computing resources were assigned for development and testing environments.

"The importance of this modernization can hardly be overstated, since it covered production systems that support day-to-day business of the insurance company, - says Aleksey Struchenko, division chief, DBM and applications optimization, Jet Infosystems. – An interesting challenge during the project concerned a choice between several options of distribution of Oracle's significant resources among consolidated databases. The best option was chosen as a result of excellent cooperation between our team (that included an Oracle Certified Master) and Soglasie experts."

"I am pleased to note that the benefits of Oracle engineered systems have been increasingly spreading to new industries. We welcome Soglasie, one of the first Russian insurance companies that has modernized its IT infrastructure based on Oracle Exadata and therefore has noticeably improved the performance of its major systems to support long-term and short-term growth," – says Andrey Pivovarov, leader of the advanced technologies and pre-project consulting group, Oracle CIS.
