Jet Infosystems installs LAN at Takeda’s plant in Yaroslavl

Moscow. With the help of Jet Infosystems, Takeda has installed a Cisco-based LAN at its pharmaceutical plant in Yaroslavl. The fully scalable network has a maximum throughput of 10,000 Mbit/s and a capacity of 2,000 client ports to accommodate workstation equipment (PCs and IP telephones), manufacturing equipment, servers, laboratory systems and Wi-Fi access points. The LAN can is powerful enough to transmit all types of traffic including heavy media content at high rates.

Takeda, one of the global leaders in the pharmaceutical industry, has been active in the Russian market for over 20 years (previously under the Nikomed trade mark). In 2009 its board of directors agreed to establish a modern production facility in Yaroslavl. The LAN project was contracted to Jet Infosystems and launched at the plant construction stage.

Jet Infosystems engineers have prepared LAN blueprints in accordance with Takeda corporate standards. At the same time they came up with a plan for the integration of the temporary LAN used by the plant administration with the new one. This was followed by installation, connection and setup of network equipment including IP telephony and Wi-Fi access point. The LAN has a double-center star architecture: the network core incorporates two switches connected into a cluster by means of the Cisco Virtual Switching System (VSS). This design means a 100% redundant core and a 100% increase in capacity.

“The network has a modular design for simpler administration and step-by-step scalability, - says Sergey Malyshev, network services development manager at the Center for Network Solutions, Jet Infosystems. –The network can automatically detect the appropriate data transfer rate (10/100/1000/10000 Mbit/s) depending on the capacity of the receiving device.”

The active network hardware supports Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, as well as the Telnet, SSH, SNMP and HTTP protocols. The LAN also has several information security features such as establishing isolated virtual user groups, deny connection to restricted ports and block the transmission of broadcasting packets beyond the VLAN.

“The new LAN improves the performance of all staff, particular at laboratories and production facilities. In particular, it supports high-quality IP telephony and videoconferencing. The network can also be scaled up with the increase in the number of ports and data traffic,” – notes Vyacheslav Komissarov, senior IT manager at Takeda.

The LAN is protected from unauthorized access and any impact from the environment; its engineering infrastructure meets all the relevant standards for greater dependability.

Takeda’s facilities in Russia and the CIS consists of over 70 regional branches (including the Yaroslavl plant and Moscow headquarters). The entire network infrastructure of the company is connected to an integrated Orion Solar Winds monitoring system for prompt response to failures, preventive maintenance and performance analysis [1].
